Thank you for your patience while we retrieve your images.

For this exhibit, instead of featuring a single artist, we have included works from several artists whose work can be found in the ArtBase at rhizome.org.

Rhizome.org provides a unique interface that encourages users to curate their own exhibit using the works in their art database. It is a powerful resource for exploring and presenting emerging art.

The 5 artists in this exhibit have explored the various ways in which pixels can be manipulated, exposed, or utilized. They have used the foundational element, the smallest discrete element of an image on a screen - the pixel - as a basis for exploring ideas in contemporary art.

Among other things, the works here distort images over time, become huge interactive drawings, sort information, transmit visual data, and animate patterns. Each of these pieces, push the boundaries of what can be done with the basic element of the pixel.

As you launch each individual project, consider the pixel and its role in our visual and artistic culture.
